Marjorie Taylor Green and Paul Coser take on team assignments

CNN

Republican Reps. Marjorie Taylor Green of Georgia and Paul Kosar of Arizona were given committee appointments to the new Congress after being booted from their caucuses by Democrats and some Republicans for their incendiary comments, sources told CNN.

The House GOP Steering Committee on Tuesday agreed to appoint Green to the House Homeland Security Committee, which has cross-border jurisdiction and a potential role Fired Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas.

Kosar was appointed to the House Committee on Natural Resources, where he previously served.

Sources told CNN that both decisions were made unanimously by the steering committee, which is made up of members close to and a part of House GOP leadership. Committee lists must still be approved by the full House GOP, but the convention generally approves what the steering committee recommends.

Green and Koser were among several GOP hardliners — including Reps. Lauren Bobert of Colorado and Scott Perry of Pennsylvania — named to the House Oversight Committee, according to Republican sources.

Green’s inclusion is notable because he lobbied for the seat and was a key defender of Kevin McCarthy during the speaker race. Kosar, who, like Greene, lost committee seats in the last Congress in a Democratic response to incendiary comments, voted against McCarthy but later flipped for him.

McCarthy has long vowed to add Greene and Gosser to the committees, while he has promised to oust some House Democrats from their membership.

Perry also eventually supported McCarthy after opposing him. Bobert helped McCarthy win the “present” vote.

Adding hardliners would give them the ability to shape more aggressive investigations into the Biden administration.
