Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis was involved in a car crash in Chattanooga, Tenn., on his way to a fundraiser there on Tuesday, his spokesman said, adding that Mr. DeSantis was not injured.
“This morning, the governor was involved in a car accident while attending an event in Chattanooga, Tennessee,” DeSantis campaign spokesman Brian Griffin said in a statement. “He and his team were unhurt. We appreciate the nation’s prayers and well wishes for his continued safety on the campaign trail.
Mr. DeSantis’ four-car motorcade was traveling on Interstate 75 Tuesday morning when traffic suddenly slowed and the lead vehicle braked hard, causing a pileup, a Chattanooga Police Department spokeswoman said.
Police spokesman Kevin West said police were called about 8:15 a.m. when only vehicles were involved in the governor’s motorcade.
“I don’t think they’re going at a real pace,” Mr. West said.
A female employee suffered what she described as “minor injuries,” but she said Mr. He added that he was able to attend the event with DeSantis.
The campaign said the staff member was “evaluated on site by medical personnel and cleared to depart.”
At a fundraiser in Chattanooga hosted by local Republicans on Tuesday, and at events in Knoxville and Franklin, Mr. DeSantis had planned to attend.
