Fuel pump issue prompts Honda to recall more than 2.5 million vehicles
The recall, submitted by Honda Motor Co. to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on Monday, spans the model years of the automaker’s Honda and Acura models in the United States.
For Honda, the recalled vehicles include the 2018-2020 model years Accord, Civic Coupe, Civic Sedan, Civic Hatchback, Civic Type R, CR-V, HR-V, Ridgeline and Odyssey; Model years 2019-2020 for Clarity PHEV and fitment; Model year 2020 for the CR-V hybrid; and the Accord Hybrid for the 2017-2020 model years, according to the NHTSA recall report.
For Acura, those are the 2018-2020 model years for the ILX, MTX, MTX Hybrid, RTX, RLX, and TLX, and the 2017-2020 model years for the NSX.

A problem with the fuel pump module may cause it to malfunction. The affected vehicle’s engine “may not start or stall while driving,” increasing the risk of a crash or injury, according to Honda’s recall statement.

Honda has identified improper molding of the fuel pump area as the source of the problem.
“As of December 12, 2023, Honda has had 4,042 warranty claims and no reports of injuries or deaths related to this issue from January 2018 to December 12, 2023,” the statement said.

Honda said it will send a letter to customers asking them to bring the recalled vehicle to a dealership to receive an “upgraded” replacement part at no cost to vehicle owners.
According to the recall report it will start happening on February 5th.

“The solution consists of high-density parts and impellers with expanded clearance between the impeller and the fuel pump,” it said.
Dealers, meanwhile, received a recall notice.
Honda’s share price saw little change amid the news, up just 0.5% from where it started the day so far. It has a market capitalization of $56.37 billion.
