Kids gotta be kids: Thoughts from the Little League World Series
USA Today’s Stephen Borrelli He writes of the Little League World Series and the young players who make up this exciting tournament: “We expect them to come, and we’ll be happy when they do.”
Amidst the celebration comes tears and high levels of stress. Borrelli reminds us that the players who will entertain many this weekend are the kids, and offers some insight into not only remembering that fact, but also tailoring the presentation of the tournament to the age of the players.
“We love the Little League World Series, but there are subtle ways to make it even better. Here’s how to take the pressure off the kids who play in it and open up opportunities for more of them,” Borrelli writes.
How does the Little League World Series work?
The Little League World Series is divided into two brackets: the United States bracket and the international bracket. Each bracket will host its own tournament, and the winner from each bracket will face off in the championship.
American and international parentheses are double elimination parentheses. This means that a team can advance to the single elimination bracket even after losing its first game. The winner of the elimination bracket then plays the winner of the winner’s bracket in the US or International Finals for a chance to compete in the LLWS Championship.
In other words, a team must lose twice to be eliminated from the tournament.
