Tim Walz and JD Vance’s 2024 VP debate is Tuesday. Here’s what you need to know.

Washington – Sen. JD Vance Governor of Ohio and Minnesota Tim Walls — relative newcomers to the national political spotlight — meet Tuesday in the only vice presidential debate scheduled before the November election.

The debate comes three weeks after former President Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris attended Their only scheduled discussion.

WallsHarris’ running mate has a long career in politics, but was largely unknown to voters outside of Minnesota before he joined the Democratic Party.

VanceThe author of “Hillbilly Elegy” was first elected to the post in 2022, two years before Trump was chosen as his running mate.

Here’s what to know about the debate.

What time will the VP debate start and end?

The debate begins Tuesday at 9 p.m. ET. It will last 90 minutes — the same length as two presidential debates — and end at 10:30 pm ET.

Who moderates the VP debate?

“CBS Evening News” anchor and managing editor Norah O’Donnell and “Face the Nation” host and chief foreign affairs correspondent Margaret Brennan will moderate the discussion.

Where is the VP discussion?

The debate takes place at the CBS Broadcast Center in New York City.

Trump was a lifelong resident of the Democratic stronghold of New York City before he changed his life Voter registration and primary residence Palm Beach, Florida in 2019, where his Mar-a-Lago club is located.

What are the rules for discussion?

Both campaigns agreed for a 90-minute debate with two four-minute commercial breaks. Campaign staff are not allowed to interact with candidates during breaks.

There will be no audience – a measure implemented during the previous two presidential debates.

At the start of the event, moderators will introduce the candidates in current party order, with Walls coming first. There will be no opening statements.

Walls will stand behind the lectern on the left side of the stage, which will be on the right side of the audience screens. Vance will be on the right side of the stage, but the left side of the curtains.

Candidates who cannot bring pre-written notes or props on stage will be given two minutes to answer a question and two minutes to answer. They will be allowed one minute to object. At the discretion of the moderators, candidates may get an additional minute to continue the discussion.

Unlike presidential debates, a candidate’s microphone is not muted while their opponent is speaking, but CBS News reserves the right to mute the microphones.

He won a virtual coin toss on Thursday, finishing second with his final statement. Each candidate will be given two minutes for their closing remarks.
