As was so often the case throughout his unparalleled career, James Cameron Made movie history again this weekend.
His long-awaited “Avatar: The Way of Water” has now grossed $2 billion worldwide Deadline.
After the film’s box office collection this weekend, the film has held the No. 1 spot for the sixth consecutive weekend since its December release.
CNN reached out to Disney Studios, which produces “Avatar: The Way of Water,” for comment on the film’s recent financial achievements.
“Avatar: The Way of Water” is the sequel to Cameron’s 2009 extraterrestrial epic “Avatar,” which topped the list of best-selling films of all time. Box Office Mojo.
Cameron’s other film is also in the $2 billion club — 1997’s “Titanic.” Only three films are part of that club: 2015’s “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens,” 2018’s “Avengers: Infinity War,” and a year later, “Avengers: Endgame.”
Cameron is therefore the only director who can boast that three of his films are one of only six films to gross more than $2 billion, as well as being among the top six highest-grossing films of all time.
