Jon Stewart returned to his old seat behind “The Daily Show” desk Monday evening after a nearly nine-year hiatus, resuming his role as late-night host in time for the 2024 presidential election.

Stewart didn't spare President Biden or former President Donald Trump from sharp jokes — the frontrunners in both parties are 81 and 77, respectively. And 2024 looks a lot like 2020.

He showed the suggested slogan for the 2024 election coverage: “What are we doing?” Alternatively, he provided: “Decision 2024: Ancient Roadshow.”

“We're not suggesting that the man is vibrant, productive or efficient. But they both stretch the limits of what can handle the world's toughest job,” Stewart said. “It's not crazy to think that the oldest presidential candidate in the country's history might have some of these challenges.”

If elected, both Biden and Trump would be the oldest presidents to serve out their terms, with former New York Mayor Mike Bloomberg and Sen. Some older candidates, such as Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), were 78 years old. When running in 2020.

Greetings excited studio audience, Stewart promised to use his visit as host Politics, technology and “something a little lighter: Israel-Palestine.”

“The next nine months or so — maybe longer depending on the coup schedule — Chuck,” Stewart said in a Jan. 6, 2021, in a note about the uprising at the US Capitol. “The advantage is that, at some point, I'm told the sun will run out of hydrogen,” Stewart said at one point.

Specifically, Special Counsel Robert K. In last week's report, Hurr also mocked the White House's efforts to reassure Biden's voters, describing the president as a “demented old man.” Exercise for the office.

“My memory is pretty good,” Biden said Thursday, angrily responding to a question about his mental health. “I am the most qualified person in this country to be president of the United States and to finish the job I started,” he said. At the same news conference, Biden mistakenly referred to Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi as the president of Mexico. “Geography buffs may have noticed that Gaza and Mexico don't share a border,” joked Stewart.

Stewart defended his swipes at Biden — which came thick and fast — as an exercise in his democratic duty. “The stakes of this election do not put Donald Trump's opponent under scrutiny,” he said. “It really puts him under scrutiny.”

Stewart also criticized Biden's foreign policy, challenging the president on the language he used to characterize Israel's military campaign in Gaza. Last week, Biden said Israel's military strike was “over the top” — a sign of even stronger condemnation of Israel.

“I love how Biden describes Israel's relentless bombing of civilians, and my mom describes the Super Bowl halftime show: 'It was a little too much,'” Stewart replied. Gaza's Ministry of Health reports that more than 28,000 people were killed in the area. Israel launched the war after an October 7 attack by Hamas that killed around 1,200 people.

After Biden's campaign announced over the weekend that it was joining TikTok in an effort to appeal to younger voters, Stewart said the president's first clip backfired.

In order of quick answers to questions Regarding the Super Bowl, Biden refused to “choose” between football player siblings Jason Kelce and Travis Kelce. Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs respectively. He said his favorite Kells were “Mother Kells.” “I understand he makes great chocolate chip cookies,” Biden said in the video he uploaded.

“How do you look old on TikTok?” Stewart wondered aloud in response.

Stewart will lead the show's popular Monday night slot throughout the 2024 election cycle, with hosts rotating through the rest of the week. He previously hosted the show from 1999 to 2015. In that time, the show has changed the late-night comedy landscape, winning 24 Emmys and often going viral on social media. Last year, Comedy Central said the show's next permanent host would be announced in 2024, with Trevor Noah filling the vacant seat starting in December 2022.

Stewart pointed out that older people are not the only presidential candidates. “Look at me,” he said. “Look what time it's been. Give the kids here a treat on the surface of the moon,” he said, motioning for the camera to zoom in on his face.
