NEW YORK (AP) — Justin Timberlake was arrested early Tuesday on charges that the singer was driving under the influence in Long Island, New York, authorities said.
Timberlake was released from custody earlier in the day after being arrested at Chalk Harbor on the east end of Long Island. He was charged with one count of DWI, and his next court date is scheduled for July 26, according to the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office.
Timberlake’s attorney and representatives did not immediately return requests for comment from The Associated Press.
Sag Harbor is a seaside village in the Hamptons, about 100 miles (160 kilometers) from New York City. In summer, it is a hot spot for wealthy visitors.
A young Timberlake was a Disney Musketeer, where his castmates included future girlfriend Britney Spears. He rose to fame in the boy band NSYNC and began a solo recording career in 2002. As an actor, Timberlake has gained acclaim in films including “The Social Network” and “Friends with Benefits.”
He has won 10 Grammy Awards and four Primetime Emmy Awards.
